Pursuant to subsection
12(1) of the
Municipalities Act R.S.P.E.I. 1988, Cap M-13, the
Community of Tignish has applied to the Minister of Finance, Energy and
Municipal Affairs to extend the Community's municipal boundary to include parcel numbers 843573, 549568 and
825075 as outlined below:
The application states that the reasons for the
The Community of Tignish has applied to bring
the three above noted properties into the Community's boundaries.
There is a possibility of increased industrial
activity in the area of the three parcels of land.
These parcels of land include environmentally sensitive
wetlands and freshwater streams. The Community of Tignish recognizes
a need to ensure that future development does not present a negative
impact on these natural resources, and therefore the Community needs
to be able to control development for the benefit and safety of the
residents of the Community and the surrounding region.
In accordance with Section 13 of the
Municipalities Act, the Island
Regulatory and Appeals Commission has been directed by the Minister of
Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs to conduct a public hearing in or near
the area to be annexed for the purpose of reviewing the application.
The public hearing will be held at the temporary
municipal office [the former Co-operators Building] located at 100B
Railway Street in Tignish, commencing at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December
13, 2011. In the event
this hearing is cancelled due to poor weather conditions, the storm date
will be Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at 7:00 p.m.
Residents of the Community of Tignish, residents of the area to
be annexed and any person affected by the application are invited to
attend and make representation concerning the application.
